1 . Ouça as letras do alfabeto na gravação e pratique repetindo-as em voz alta.

2 . Ouça as personagens da história dizendo com que letras seus nomes são
escritos. Pratique repetindo-as em voz alta.

3 . Agora tente dizer as letras do seu nome em inglês.

Do you know?

Se em uma palavra há duas letras iguais, uma após a outra, diz-se: double. Por exemplo: Philippe é soletrado P-H-I-L-I-DOUBLE-P-E.

Se a palavra tiver um apóstrofo, ele deve ser soletrado. King’s Road é soletrado K-I-N-G-APOSTROPHE-S-R-O-A-D.

4 . Ouça e complete o diálogo.

CARLOS: Yoshiko, how do you spell your family name?

YOSHIKO: It’s spelt ……………………….. . Easy, isn’t it?

CARLOS: I don’t think so. But can you spell the town where I live?

YOSHIKO: Of course. It’s ……………………..

CARLOS: That’s right! And I can spell the name of the town where you live. It’s ………………….. .

YOSHIKO: Very clever. But this is a hard one. Can you spell the name of the capital of Scotland?

CARLOS: I think so. It’s ………………………, isn’t it?

YOSHIKO: Well done. I think that’s really hard because it’s got letters in it that you don’t say.

CARLOS: Yes it has. So has the thing you cut food with.

YOSHIKO: Oh, you mean a ……………… . There are lots of words with silent letters in English, aren’t there? What about the name of the fish that you can get in Scotland?

CARLOS: It’s a haggis, that’s H-A-double G-I-S.

YOSHIKO: Don’t be silly, Carlos. A haggis isn’t a fish! I mean a …………………!
