Present simple
Usamos esta forma verbal para expressar rotinas, hábitos, situações permanentes e verdades gerais. Em afirmações simples, como as mostradas abaixo, um pronome pessoal (exemplo: I, you, he, she, we) ou um substantivo precede o verbo e o restante da frase.
I walk to work.
Australia is a big country.
1. Forma afirmativa
À maior parte dos verbos, acrescenta-se -s ou -es quando usados com he, she ou it.
I start / finish work at 9:00.
You start / finish work at 9:00.
We start / finish work at 9:00.
They start / finish work at 9:00.
He starts / finishes work at 9:00.
She starts / finishes work at 9:00.
It starts / finishes work at 9:00.
Verbos comuns aos quais se acrescenta -s:
- ask → asks
- get → gets
- hope → hopes
- know → knows
- like → likes
- live → lives
- want → wants
Aos verbos terminados em -ss, -o, -ch ou -sh, acrescenta-se -es:
- do → does
- go → goes
- miss → misses
- teach →teaches
- wash → washes
- watch → watches
Verbos terminados em -y mudam para -ies:
- cry → cries
- fly → flies
- try → tries
2. Forma negativa
Ponha don’t (do not) ou doesn’t (does not) antes do verbo:
I don’t start work at 9:00.
You don’t start work at 9:00.
We don’t start work at 9:00..
They don’t start work at 9:00.
He doesn’t start work at 9:00.
She doesn’t start work at 9:00.
It doesn’t start work at 9:00.
